White Sugar Solution Color at pH 7.0 - UV Vis Spectroscopy

Sugar Color Determination According to ICUMSA™

This application note concerns the color determination of white sugar at pH 7.0 according to  ICUMSATM methods and is valid for crystalline and powdered sugars, as well as very pure syrups. To find out more, please download the method below.

How is the color of white sugar at pH 7.0 determined?

This multi-parameter spectrophotometric and refractometric system from Mettler-Toledo enables automatic, error-free calculation of color according to  ICUMSATM. This method is based on the international  ICUMSATM method GS2/3-9 (2005): "Determination of sugar solution colour at pH 7.0" and is valid for colors up to 600  ICUMSATM (IU) color units.

First, the RM40 refractometer and UV5 Excellence spectrophotometer are connected to the LabX PC software. After measuring the Brix value on the refractometer, the sugar concentration is automatically calculated and transferred to the UV Vis spectrophotometer. There, the final  ICUMSATM value is calculated and shown immediately on the instrument's screen. For all equipment, method and results information, download the application note below.
