This application note provides a method to determine the polymer content in a monomer raw material using UV Vis spectrophotometry.
Background
Styrene, α-methyl styrene (AMS), standards and a baby powder puff container are used for a test sample. As polymers present in styrene or AMS monomer are insoluble in methanol, a white turbidity appears in the methanol solution. The turbidity is measured at 420 nm by means of a METTLER TOLEDO UV/VIS Excellence spectrophotometer.
