A food safety breach can have disastrous consequences – for both the consumer and for brands. A manufacturer's priority is to produce safe, high-quality food, free from physical and bacterial contamination; however, product recalls still occur frequently. For example, in the USA, 313 recalls were announced in 2023 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an 8% increase from 2022.*
Recalls cause harm to brands as well as consumers and can be extremely costly for manufacturers. Negative stories about recalled brands can spread very quickly thanks to social media and online news platforms, amplifying the damage caused. So, upholding food safety while protecting reputations remains vitally important for food manufacturers.
