Increased capacity and enhanced customer facility to support future growth for x-ray inspection
Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection’s new Global Centre of Excellence for X-ray in Hertfordshire, UK increases our UK manufacturing footprint for x-ray inspection technologies by more than 80%. This will help facilitate company growth over the next decade and beyond.
Our customers will benefit from an improved experience including shorter lead times for new x-ray inspection solutions, as well as brand new, dedicated demonstration, factory acceptance testing and customer observation areas.
More than twice as big as our old production site in Royston, the new building will be engaged in R&D, manufacturing, logistics, final quality testing and repair functions for Mettler-Toledo Safeline x-ray inspection systems.
We are continuously improving our operational efficiencies to further enhance the customer journey. Our new Global Centre of Excellence for X-ray has enabled us to optimise flow lines and make other productivity improvements thereby reducing machine lead times by 25%. Warehouse capacity has been increased by 50%, while both employees and visitors will benefit from greater car parking space and new dining facilities.
Customer experience was indeed at the forefront of planning for the new site. Dedicated spaces allow visitors from both the food and pharma sectors to watch technology demonstrations and interact with Mettler-Toledo staff in comfort and privacy, with their entire experience tailored to their needs.
The new site also benefits from several environmental improvements, compared to the previous facility. These include more efficient heating and insulation, as well as additional electric car charging points.
Alongside all of these improvements, we also have the capability to grow still further on the Hertfordshire site as business requirements demand.

From the new Global Centre, x-ray experts will support our local support network who service customer’s x-ray inspection systems to ensure that are continually optimised to detect a wide range of contaminants, complete quality assurance checks, avoid product recalls and comply with regulations.
Depending upon a manufacturer’s requirements, the Mettler-Toledo Service Team delivers virtual technical support. If applicable, we use our remote Augmented Reality (AR) Customer Support service to securely connect remotely to deliver diagnostic and repair services for both hardware and software. Additionally, we can disperse a large number of spare parts from our Royston site which will help manufacturers to achieve continuous production uptime.
