What is the difference between Thermal Analysis Standard and Expert Calibration?

Standard CalibrationExpert Calibration

Single heating rate per substance

Sample temperature

Additional parameter

- DSC: heat flow

- TGA: mass

- TGA/DSC: mass/heat flow

- TMA: length/force

- DMA: displacement/force

Three heating rates per substance

Includes all Standard Calibration features

Sample temperature

Tau lag correction

Ideal solution for DSC and TGA

MT-approved SOPs and standardized certificates are provided for all calibrations.

See above for more details.

What is a tau-lag and a tau-lag correction?

During a Tau lag:

  • As a sample is heated, there is a delay between the furnace temperature and the sample temperature
  • The sample temperature "lags behind" the furnace temperature
  • The amount of tau lag depends on the temperature

During a Tau lag correction:

  • An algorithm in STARe software calculates the time lag
  • It corrects for the delay between the furnace temperature and the sample temperature
  • After a correction, the measured thermal events will always have an identical temperature regardless of the heating rate
