With InMotion Autosampler

Degassing of carbonated beverages
Degassing of carbonated beverages

Measurements of the density or the refractive index of carbonated beverages usually serve the purpose of determining the sugar content of the beverage e.g. in °Brix. But, degassing of the sample is required, since the presence of air bubbles in the measuring cell substantially influences the measured values. This is especially true for high precision density and refractive index measurements.

A Faster Alternative to Ultrasonic Bath

Degassing is routinely achieved using an ultrasonic bath or shaking, followed by filtering. This can be tedious and consumes precious time of lab analysts. A faster and automated alternative is to degas samples directly in the beaker using the METTLER TOLEDO InMotion™ autosampler, which stirs and blows air into the sample previous to the measurement.

This application note shows how the system works, including the setup, installation, the procedure and typical results of density, refractive index and Brix measurements.
