Wet milling is a viable alternative to dry milling for particle size reduction. Wet milling can help achieve the desired particle size distribution as well as drastically improve productivity (no yield loss due to powder hang up in dry mill) and worker safety (no exposure to dry powder).
A typical wet mill configuration involves slurry circulated through a high shear mixer. By measuring in line using Lasentec FBRM, one can directly determine the number of passes through the high shear mixer required to give the desired particle size distribution, and ultimately have tight control on the process when at a manufacturing scale.
