If I want to use ISM sensors, do I need to convert all my measurement points to ISM?

No, you can start with one ISM measurement system and build from there.

Why do ISM sensors calculate their diagnostics internally?

It is possible to take data from a sensor and use external software or another device to interpret the data and calculate diagnostics information. However, use of external devices adds complexity to the system. ISM sensors make all the diagnostic calculations in their on-board microchip, and the diagnostics data is available through all common asset management and process control solutions.

Do I need a cloud to benefit from ISM?

No, the only devices you need are ISM sensors and ISM transmitters. The transmitter sends the measurement results, asset data and predictive sensor diagnostics data to any common process control or asset management platform. There is no need for edge devices or other hardware/software, nor are data analytics or interpretation required to benefit from data which can be used for predictive maintenance schemes or any automated process.

What is Plug and Measure?

Plug and Measure is an ISM feature that enables fast, error-free sensor installation at measurement points. In analog analytical measurement systems, a senor’s calibration data is held in the transmitter it is connected to. It is not possible to calibrate a sensor on one transmitter and use that sensor on another transmitter unless calibration is done again. ISM sensors retain their calibration data, which means a calibrated sensor can be connected to any ISM transmitter and no further calibration is required (unless a process calibration is necessary). Once a calibrated ISM sensor is connected to an ISM transmitter, the transmitter reads the calibration and other data from the sensor and configures itself automatically. Therefore, the system is ready to measure again very quickly.
