Downoad the application note on quality control via density or refractive index in the semiconductor industry.

In the fabrication process of printed circuit boards, silicon wafers, and integrated chips, special attention is given to the purity of the materials and the chemicals used because even small impurities can have a significant impact on the performance of the resulting semiconductor device.

In the semiconductor industry, measurements of density and refractive index of various substances ensure that optimal quality and correct concentrations are employed during the different steps of semiconductor manufacturing.

  • In chemical analysis, both techniques can be used to determine the concentration of a solute in a liquid solution. The properties of a solution change with the concentration of the solute. By measuring the density and/or the refractive index of a solution, the concentration of the solute can be determined.
  • For quality control, density and refractometry are used to ensure the purity of liquids used in semiconductor manufacturing. For example, a change in the property of a cleaning solution may indicate the presence of contaminants.
