One Line, Maximum Throughput - Dual Scale

While read rate is crucial to barcode reading and dimensioning performance, throughput is key when it comes to weighing. A high speed dualscale allows you to maximize throughput without installing multiple weighing lines.

The problem with single-scale weighing

In a sorting environment, parcels that need to be weighed come in all different shapes and sizes. Weighing belts need to be as long as the length of the longest parcel to get the job done. However, having a single long scale to handle long packages can affect throughput because the scale needs to weigh smaller parcels, too. A small item, although weighed quickly, must still run the length of the scale belt until the next parcel can be weighed. This eventually slows down overall production and decreases throughput.

The solution

A dual scale with two weighing belts of different lengths offers a solution to this problem. Parcel length is detected and, if the parcel is small, it is sent to the shorter scale belt to be weighed. If it is over a certain predefined length, however, it is sent to the longer belt. The longest parcels are weighed over both weighing belts. In a typical high-speed parcel operation, a dual scale will increase throughput by up to an amazing 150%, creating significantly more processing capacity for your operation.
