Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) – a technique frequently used in thermal analysis – characterizes materials by measuring their change in mass as a function of temperature.
The properties and behavior that can be measured by TGA include composition, purity, decomposition reactions, decomposition temperatures, and absorbed moisture content. TGA is an excellent technique for characterizing the thermal properties of materials such as plastics, elastomers and thermosets, mineral compounds and ceramics as well as for chemical and pharmaceutical products. This is illustrated, using real application examples, in our TGA tutorial video.
