The application gives the method to measure the specific gravity of sulphuric acid in the battery. This gives the measure of state of charge of battery for its quality control.

Background:

The most direct way to check batteries and if they need to be recharged is to determine the specific gravity (SG) of the battery acid solution: the higher the SG, the higher the state of charge of the battery.Typical lead acid batteries are made up of an electrolytic solution that consists of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and water.

Regular measurement of specific gravity (SG) or density (d) are performed at battery production facilities for quality control. Density measurement prevents an over/undercharge, which could result in cell damage or battery failure.

Entering an Alpha value to compensate the SG at the measured temperature to a reference temperature using an Alpha value from literature is possible, meaning no further calculation is necessary.
