Learnings gained from the use of automated sampling in Pfizer's synthetic chemistry and process development labs are discussed. Seven case studies presented include the sampling of the following reactions:
The improved data gained from the representative reaction samples provided not only better process understanding, but also enabled multi-tasking by chemists for more productive time in the laboratory.
Presenter
After receiving a PhD in Organic Photochemistry and Photochemical Sciences from Bowling Green State University in 1998, Dr. David Place joined Eastman Kodak as a Research Associate. In 2005, Dr. Place joined Wyeth as a Principle Research Scientist and transitioned to Pfizer where he is currently a Research Scientist. Dr. Place has experience in automated chemical synthesis to optimization and screening of materials and reactions and his specialties include kinetics, Design of Experiments (DoE), process chemistry and informatics. With his ability to identify technical needs and implement changes to improve productivity, Dr. Place has established strong collaborative relationships in multi-facted projects and is an asset in the technical community.
