One-Step Multiparameter Analysis of Lithium-Ion Electrolyte

Méthode Applicative

Density, Refractive Index, and UV Vis Color Measurement All in One Go

In batteries, liquid electrolytes are made up of lithium salts that are dissolved in an organic solvent; resulting in excellent conductivity and the creation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI).

In the process of coating the electrodes for batteries, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is utilized as a solvent. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), the most popular substance used to bond both the anodes and cathodes in the creation of Li, Ni, Mg, and Co batteries, is easily dissolved by it.

In this application note, we will learn how METTLER TOLEDO analytical instruments, such as a density meter, refractometer, and UV Vis spectrophotometer, are used in combination for a one-step fully automated multiparameter analysis of lithium-ion electrolyte and NMP solvent.

The Advantages of Multiparameter Analysis

  • Parallel determination of several parameters
  • Saves up to 70% labor time
  • No human intervention required
  • Sample contamination or modification can be avoided, especially for hygroscopic samples
  • Data retrieval and documentation is more accessible with LabX™ software
