Conductivity Transmitters

Reliable Conductivity Measurement in Process & Water

Conductivity transmitters are analytical transmitters designed for monitoring electrical conductivity levels within a given solution for industrial process, pharmaceutical production and water quality monitoring. Conversely, resistivity transmitters monitor how strongly a solution opposes the flow of electric current. Conductivity transmitters offer a reliable interface for process and water measurements including a user-friendly touchscreen interface for simplified operation.

FAQs

What is a conductivity transmitter?

Conductivity transmitters play an important role in an analytical measurement loop by continuously monitoring and reporting conductivity measurements and sensor diagnostic data back to the user through a touchscreen interface. A conductivity transmitter acts as the user interface for an online conductivity or resistivity sensor, and all METTLER TOLEDO conductivity and resistivity transmitters allow you to integrate your conductivity measurements into your control systems using either an analog signal or industrial communication protocol.

How do I know I am choosing the right conductivity transmitter?

There is a wide range of criteria that goes into selecting the appropriate conductivity or resistivity transmitter for your specific needs and functions. When considering your application, you should assess your environment, how many parameters are being measured, if there are single or multi-channel requirements, or if Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) is necessary. METTLER TOLEDO recommends a discussion with a local sales representative to assess your needs and recommend the right conductivity/resistivity transmitter for your specific application.

Can a conductivity/resistivity transmitter measure multiple parameters at the same time?

Yes, conductivity and resistivity transmitters that measure multiple parameters at the same time are called multi-parameter transmitters. METTLER TOLEDO conductivity transmitters with multi-parameter capabilities help lower cost per measurement point while providing greater flexibility, less complexity, and less training and inventory.

What unit is conductivity measured in?

Conductivity is measured in siemens per cm (S/cm). A conductivity of 1 S/cm is actually quite high, so most conductivity measurements involve solutions where conductivity is measured in mS/cm (thousandths of a S/cm) or in μS/cm (millionths of a S/cm). Resistivity, on the other hand, is the inverse of conductivity and is measured in ohm-meters. Resistivity readings are typically displayed in MΩ∙cm. A conductivity transmitter generally offers flexibility in how measurements are displayed.

What types of sensors integrate with a conductivity transmitter?

There are three technology types of conductivity probe used for process or water conductivity measurement in a conductivity transmitter:

Additionally, a multi-parameter conductivity transmitter will also accept sensors for other analytical parameters, reducing training efforts and transmitter inventory needs.
