How an Italian Dairy Increased Product Quality
How an Italian Dairy Increased Product Quality

The conductivity of milk and turbidity of milk can be used in dairies in a number of ways. Centrale del Latte di Roma, the biggest dairy company in Rome, wanted to use in-line conductivity and turbidity sensors to increase product quality and reduce product loss.

Centrale del Latte di Roma was concerned that some of the milk arriving from their suppliers was not meeting their high standards. Although milk quality could be checked in their laboratory, dairy managers knew in-line measurement of milk during download from tanker trucks would allow sub-standard milk to be identified in real time, before it entered the dairy.

At the filling lines, the dairy was concerned about the amount of product being lost due to time-regulated control of valves between flushing the lines and restoring the product supply. Dairy managers wanted to implement a solution that would reduce the loss of product and require less maintenance than the mechanisms it was using.

For monitoring the incoming milk, Centrale del Latte di Roma selected the robust InPro 7108 conductivity sensor. This sensor is designed for exactly this type of application. It has a surface that reduces fouling and tolerates clean-in-place cycles.

To reduce filling line losses, Centrale del Latte di Roma chose the unique InPro 8300 Reflection Absorption Multi-Switch. This in-line optical monitor measures the absorption of near-infrared light to detect changes in turbidity and color in liquids.

Find out in the success story how much product Centrale del Latte di Roma now save and how quickly they recovered their investment.
