Bahareh Khalili

The Art of Precision: Designing Continuous Flow Crystallization delivering Uniform Crystals

Bahareh Khalili - Manager, Solid State R&D, Eurofins CDMO Alphora

Dr. Bahareh Khalili earned her Master of Science and Ph.D. in Organometallic and Solid-State Chemistry from the University of Western Ontario, focusing on the synthesis and characterization of novel metal phosphide and chalcogenide nanoclusters. She continued her academic journey with a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Sohrab Rohani’s laboratory at the University of Western Ontario, specializing in solid-state pharmaceuticals. Bahareh began her industrial career in the Research and Technology department at Apotex Pharmachem Inc., where she addressed advanced solid-state challenges in the pharmaceutical industry. Since 2018, she has led the Solid State Research & Development business unit at Eurofins CDMO Alphora. Under her leadership, a team of solid-state scientists employs state-of-the-art instrumentation to support API and drug product development at various lifecycle stages. Their work encompasses high-throughput polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening, comprehensive physicochemical characterization of APIs, and crystallization process development. Bahareh has authored 15 peer-reviewed journal articles and filed 12 patent applications across multiple countries.

Majid Farahani

The Art of Precision: Designing Continuous Flow Crystallization delivering Uniform Crystals

Majid Farahani - Sr. Research Scientist, Solid State R&D, Eurofins CDMO Alphora

Dr. Majid Farahani obtained his M.Sc. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and his Ph.D. in Material Sciences (Chemistry). He completed a year-long postdoctoral fellowship at INRS under the supervision of Prof. Steven Laplante, focusing on high-throughput fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD) using NMR techniques in collaboration with Harvard Medical School. Majid then joined Western University as a postdoctoral fellow, where he studied the structural engineering of bio-based materials for versatile applications. In 2022, Majid joined Eurofins CDMO Alphora Inc. as a senior research scientist, specializing in solid-state characterization and crystallization process development for the manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Majid has published 23 peer-reviewed journal articles and has filed a patent application in the United States.

Yung-Shun Kang

Model-based QbC Strategy for Agglomeration Control of a Pharmaceutical Crystallization Process

Yung-Shun Kang, Ph.D. - Purdue University ChE

Yung-Shun Kang is a Ph.D. candidate in Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, working in the Crystallization and Particle Technology Systems Engineering Lab under Dr. Zoltan Nagy. His research focuses on pharmaceutical crystallization, process modeling, and digital design of thermocycling crystallization, in collaboration with Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Yung-Shun holds a Master's degree from Purdue and a Bachelor's from National Taiwan University, both in Chemical Engineering. He also brings industry experience from TSMC, where he optimized thin-film processes in semiconductor manufacturing. His work bridges data-driven process design, advanced modeling, and experimental validation to support innovation in both pharma and tech sectors.
