Sodium Content in Potato Chips

Determination by multiple standard addition method

The sodium content of potato chips was determined by multiple standard addition technique using an Excellence titrator  and Aliquot method excluding ISA (ionic strength adjustment) sample preparation.

Background:

Potato chips is a solid inhomogeneous sample, therefore the sample preparation is performed using the aliquot method excluding ISA method. In this method a small amount of the Na+ Standard solution is added several times in succession. The resulting differences in potential are used to determine the original sample concentration.

Multiple standard addition gives three or more measurement points. Thereof, sensor calibration values (slope and intercept) are obtained during the determination and saved as results. Additional calibration is not necessary. Matrix effects are reduced using the multiple standard addition due to the calibration within the sample matrix.

The application note gives the method and .lmt and .xml for direct use on the instrument.
