The application note provides method to determine the quality control of ethanol (absolute alcohol) using UV Vis spectrophotometry.
Background
Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, is simple alcohol and a solvent that is widely used in many industries. This versatile solvent is disinfectant; cell proteins are denatured, which irreversibly inactivates fungal and bacterial cells and destroys enveloped viruses. Ethanol is water-soluble, hence it is used as a solvent in perfumes, paints and tinctures, etc. There are also several commercial, medicinal and antiseptic consumer care products that contain ethanol.Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, ethanol is used for everything, from vaccine manufacturing to disinfectants manufacturing.
The wide use of this common solvent makes it important to analyze it qualitatively and quantitatively, especially when it is used in pharmaceutical medicine.
