Serological Pipette Controllers

Motor-Assisted Aspiration and Dispense

A serological pipette controller – also known as a pipette aid or pipette gun – aspirates and dispenses large volumes of liquid. The Rainin SP and SP+ feature motor-driven control for increased accuracy, innovative ergonomics, a rechargeable battery that delivers 15 hours of operation on a single charge, a support stand and replaceable 0.22 micron filter. Easily adjustable aspiration/dispense speeds offer greater flexibility with various solutions and media, and protection for sensitive cells.

FAQs

What is the difference between a volumetric pipette and a serological pipette?

Volumetric pipettes are designed to obtain extremely accurate measurements of the volume of a solution. Serological pipettes are useful for transferring milliliter volumes of liquid when mixing chemical solutions and when laying reagents consisting of different densities.

What is a pipette gun?

Due to its similar shape and the placement of aspiration (top) and dispense (bottom) trigger buttons a serological pipette controller is sometimes called a pipette gun.

What applications do researchers use a serological pipette controller for?

A serological pipette controller – also known as a pipette aid – like the Rainin SP is ideal for transferring growth media and other liquids for cell cultures, bacteria and yeast cultures, and sample prep (DNA/RNA/protein extraction). It can also be used to transfer liquids such as buffers, chemicals and other reagents.

Which consumables are used with the Rainin SP and SP+ pipette controllers?

All standard serological pipette sizes can be used with both the Rainin SP and SP+.

Can I change the battery on the Rainin SP and SP+?

The Rainin SP and SP+ both have a built-in rechargeable battery. The battery has a two-year life and is replaceable only by an authorized METTLER TOLEDO or Rainin service technician.

What is the recommended method for cleaning the Rainin SP and SP+ pipette controllers?

Use ultraviolet irradiation, RNaseZAP wipe, or wipe with 70% alcohol or 10% bleach or 3% H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide).

How long does a fully charged battery last on the Rainin SP and SP+ controllers?

On a single full charge, both the SP and SP+ work for up to 15 hours of consecutive use.

Do the SP and SP+ come with a set of serological pipettes?

No, serological pipettes are sold separately.
