In this e-Training course, you will learn how to interpret individual Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) measurements and get valuable tips on how to obtain additional information using complementary techniques such as DSC, TGA or TMA.

DMA measurements can be performed under very different conditions to characterize the mechanical properties of materials. A great deal of information about a sample is obtained when the temperature, frequency or displacement amplitude is varied.

DMA samples are subjected to a periodic stress in one of several different modes of deformation. Processes and events measured by the DMA include secondary relaxations, glass transitions, crystallization, solid-solid transitions, crosslinking reactions, melting, flow behavior and the rubbery plateau.

These are described using real application examples for the following materials:

  • PTFE
  • Silicone oil
  • Printed circuit board coatings
  • EVA (curing)
