Your New UKAS Certificate

The UKAS Accredited ACC Certificate now adds the results from the Eccentricity Test to the measurement uncertainty calculation, which provides a more accurate statement of uncertainty. This new uncertainty calculation conforms to EURAMET cg-18 guidelines, but it also might provide values that are higher than your former certificate.

The new measurement uncertainty calculation is represented by an absolute value (stated in the unit of measure), and a relative value (stated as a percentage). While absolute uncertainty may be higher than your former certificate, relative uncertainty provides a statement of error as a percentage of load, which puts the value into perspective.

For example, while 20g may seem like a high uncertainty, its influence at a load of 25kg is minimal, with a relative value of less than 0.1%. 

EURAMET cg-18 is a global calibration guidelines for non-automatic weighing equipment, and is the basis for accreditation in most countries. EURAMET cg-18 requires the statement of uncertainty to include results from the Eccentricity Test, which ultimately provides a more comprehensive statement of uncertainty, allowing you to benefit from the uncertainty in use formula.

Any device calibrated according to EURAMET cg-18 guidelines will also comply with UKAS standards, but may include a slightly higher uncertainty calculation, as a result. All other aspects of these two standards comply, so there is no risk in applying EURAMET cg-18 standards.
