Water Content in E-Liquids

Determination by automated Karl Fischer Titration

The application describes a method to determine the water content in E-liquids by volumetric Karl Fischer titration. The sample is directly added to the titration vessel via pipette.

Background:

Electronic cigarettes are handheld devices that are an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. The so-called E-liquid is vaporized by an electronically heated coil and the vapors are inhaled by the user. The liquid usually consists of propylene glycol, glycerol, flavors and nicotine.

As water influences the physical properties of the E-Liquid (e.g. boiling point), it is important to know its water content.

This method is developed using an Titrator Excellence  system or dedicated  Karl Fischer Titrator.
