Nänikon, July 2022 – With its new EasyPlus UV/VIS instrument line METTLER TOLEDO sets a new standard of versatility and ease of use for quality control in the food and beverage industry. Raw material inspection with conventional spectroscopy, color measurement, and water analysis within one compact instrument. This helps to cut down on testing time and reduce expenses while giving food producers the power to meet their quality standards more easily.
Food production is a competitive and price-sensitive industry with strict demands for quality control. Versatile, accurate, and low-maintenance instrumentation not only has a positive effect on product quality but also adds to the cost-effectiveness of the test routines. The new Easy UV and Easy VIS instruments both offer 3-in-1 functionality and are designed to facilitate routine spectroscopic workflows. The instruments are simple and easy to use and assure accurate, repeatable measurements. Built-in methods eliminate calculation and transcription errors and increase data quality.
Conventional Spectroscopy
With ever stricter quality regulations for food products, spectroscopy is a reliable analysis method for determining the quality of food ingredients. Given the example of table oils, UV/Vis spectroscopy gives a fast result about the quality grade of olive oil by measuring its absorbance between 200 and 300 nm. Furthermore, the vitamin content of oil (such as the presence of beta carotene) can be determined economically. With seven different path length options, the EasyPlus instruments suit a wide concentration range.
Color Measurement
The color consistency of food products is a decisive quality feature. To simplify the quality control, the Easy UV features 30 compliant, pre-installed color scales. To name just a few applications that profit from this functionality, are quality control according to EBC for breweries, sugar color methods for the purity control of raw sugars, and the Pfund scale for the categorization of honey.
Water Analytics
Numerous kits for water analysis are available on the market. They support a wide range of substances contained in liquids to be analyzed easily, quickly, and cost-efficiently. The new Easy UV and Easy VIS instruments support a range of over 150 pre-installed Spectroquant® water test methods with integrated workflow guidance. This enables even small labs to perform secure and accurate water testing directly at their premises.
Ease of Use That Convinces
However, it is not only the application versatility of the Easy UV and Easy VIS that is convincing. The intuitive user interface with workflow guidance and integrated tutorials allows to simply plug-and-measure – even for untrained staff. Methods that are compliant with standards such as ASTM, DIN, ISO, and EPA eliminate the need for post-measurement calculation. Data acquisition, storage, and display can efficiently be performed by the optional EasyDirect™ UV/VIS PC software. Additional functions such as closing the SmartLid™ to automatically start the measurement, increase productivity, and avoid time-consuming task repetition.
The new instrument line will be available as of October 2022, along with a Color Guide and a Water Testing Guide that explains measurement procedures and sample preparation in detail.
