The application gives the method to determine the quality of solvents by measuring their density. Further, it gives the method and calculation to compensate the values of density measured at different temperature.
Background:
Density measurements are a reliable way to check the purity of solvents (raw, intermediate, or final products) in various industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, cosmetic, and personal care.
The densitometer can be used to check the purity of solvents. To ensure accurate, comparable results, the measured density (d) – obtained at the measurement temperature – must be compensated to a reference temperature. Compensation of results to a reference temperature requires knowledge of the alpha (α) coefficient for each solvent.
To calculate the α-coefficient, the following equation (Eqn 1) can be used:
α=(d2/d1−1)/(T1−T2)
