Low Bromine Index according to ASTM D1492

المستند التقني

Coulometric bromine index determination is now available on Excellence titrators. The predefined methods for bromine index according to ASTM D1492 guarantee accurate and repeatable results in OneClick

Petroleum products normally consist of a mixture of many different hydrocarbon molecules including hydrocarbons containing C=C double bonds. The number of double bonds corresponds to the degree of unsaturation. This is an important quality parameter for many raw materials and finished products such as hydrocarbon fuels and lubricants. One way to express the degree of unsaturation is the so called bromine index. Typical samples from petroleum industry have bromine indices in the range of 2 to 50 mg Br/100 g for clean aromatic samples such as benzene, toluene, or xylene.

The ASTM D1492 standard specifically describes a test method for the coulometric determination of low bromine index, below 500 mg Br/100 g, in aromatic hydrocarbons.
