Vision inspection systems and software are able to verify the presence, quality and content of important product information such as the product name, variety and best before dates. Systems are also able to determine whether a printed code is readable and correct, enabling the removal non-conforming packages from the production line.
Code types readable with Vision systems include:

- Datamatrix codes
- Alpha-numeric codes
Codes printed with the following print methods can be read:
- Laser printing
- Thermal printing
- Inkjet printing
Codes can be printed and inspected on a moving production line or can be pre-printed and applied later. Regardless of when the printing occurs, a vision system should inspect the label after application to the product.
