Beer is one of the most consumed alcoholic beverages in the world. Beer contains phosphorous, which strongly influences taste and color. According to the regulatory bodies, phosphorus content of beer should be in the range of 0.159 - 0.465 g/L. Hence, it is essential to determine phosphorus as phosphate in beer.
How Is Phosphate Content of Beer Determined?
This application note gives a simple method for the quantitative determination of phosphate in beer samples using the Merck Spectroquant® Test Kit (1.14729). The absorbance of the blue-colored phosphate complex is measured at 660 nm with a METTLER TOLEDO EasyPlus UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The intensity is correlated to the concentration of phosphate.
