This application note provides a method for the determination of iron in beer using METTLER TOLEDO's UV/VIS spectrophotometer.
Why Is Iron Determination in Beer Important?
Iron in beer is primarily due to ingredients, filtration utilities, and foam stabilizers. Iron may have a negative effect on flavor, gushing (uncontrolled over-foaming), and stability. Hence, its determination is essential.
How Is Iron Content in Beer Determined?
This application note focuses on determining iron content in different beer samples using a METTLER TOLEDO's UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The intensity of the bright purple complex of iron with ferrozin is measured at 560 nm, which is directly proportional to the iron content in beer.
