In automated sorting systems, fast data transfer is essential for productivity. A new software feature in METTLER TOLEDO dynamic dimensioners speeds up data transfer between dimensioner and sorter for optimum sorting accuracy.
Once a parcel’s dimensions, weight and ID are captured, the data should be communicated to the host, which then sends a signal to the sorting system. A new data report feature now makes it possible for data to be sent to the host at a defined time, within two to three milliseconds. A parcel may make many stops on the journey to its final destination and accurate sorting and tracking data is essential to ensure that it stays on the correct course.
Avoid sorting errors and delays
Knowing a parcel’s location, size, and presentation angle is important for maximizing sorting efficiency. Items that are side by side can cause delays, damage, miss-sorts and incorrect data profiles. Our dynamic dimensioners detect when two packages are side by side by locating corners and identifying height differences. The problem is reported to the host and the packages can be directed to a re-sort line to avoid mistakes.
The software can detect other similar situations, such as if the object is outside of the measuring area. In addition, if an object is too small to be measured, in the shadow of another object, or too big to go down an out-feed, it can be sent for re-sort, reducing jams and improving tracking.
