Iron in Sulfuric Acid Determination Using UV Vis Spectroscopy

ASTM Method for a Easy and Quick Quality Check of the Reagent Standard

This application note provides a method for determining the iron content in sulfuric acid using METTLER TOLEDO's EasyPlus UV/VIS spectrophotometer.

How Is Sulfuric Acid's Quality Checked?

Sulfuric acid is a widely used reagent in many industrial segments. The impurity level of sulfuric acid is important to check for maintaining its quality. Iron is one of the common impurities found in sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid reacts with Fe to form the corresponding sulfate, affecting the purity of sulfuric acid.

How Is Iron Content of Sulfuric Acid Determined?

In this application note, quantitative determination of iron content in sulfuric acid is carried out using a METTLER TOLEDO EasyPlus UV/VIS spectrophotometer by measuring the absorbance at 510 nm of the orange-red colored complex of reduced iron and 1,10-phenanthroline.
